Aswasa Bhavan - the alliance of Corrections India -is a non-profitable organization dedicated to helping prisoners children.

The word 'aswasa' means 'comfort' and 'bhavan' means 'home'.
Aswasa bhavan means home of comfort.

Aswasa Bhavan is the main project of CORRECTIONS INDIA MOVEMENT and is the only institution of its kind. Mr. Joseph Mathew, a professional chartered accountant and his wife Mrs.Aneena Mathew, a social worker in the government department, founded Aswasa bhavan in 1989. Mr. Mathew a rehabilitated drug addict and alcoholic, and whose liver and lungs failed, had been given an extended life. This organization was started in a rented building with only two children as inmates.


At present there are more than fifty children, both male and female who experience the magic of love and care. All these children get the richest opportunities for their education, career and social life. There is a very dynamic and dedicated committee to manage the functions properly.

When either or both the parents are in prison and there is no one to look after the children they miss education and care. Often they are misled and take to crimes and other anti social activities. Aswasa bhavan offer maximum care and education to the prisoners children. Organizers of the institution Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mathew treat all the children as their own. The children call them Pappa and Mummy. These children live along with theirown children Moses and Miriam.They eat together and sleep together.

Aswasa bhavan do not consider any caste, religion or race. The only condition is that at least one of the parents has to be in jail and the other must be unable to provide for them. A reading club, sports club and debating club have been formed to find and develop the inborn talents. This clubs helps the children to be confident and capable members of the society. During vacation Aswasa bhavan arranges tours and outings. During all holidays the children are taken for short trips

Inmates who are interested in sports and music are given special coaching. They are also given training in music, dance, painting etc. and given opportunities to perform in public competitions
. The children of Aswasa Bhavan got several prizes in various school and college level competitions.The inmates are divided into four groups with a group leader. Each child gets a chart where positive and negative points are marked. It helps to create a positive personality. Children are advised to write letters to their parents in the jail, at least once in a month.

About Aswasa Bhavan

Aswasa Bhavan is the main project of CORRECTIONS INDIA MOVEMENT and is the only institution of its kind. Corrections India is a non-profit organization working for the welfare of prisoners and family for the last 20 years. This organization aims at the prevention, control and correction through moral teachings and rehabilitation..

Aswasa Bhavan means a home of comfort. Mr. Joseph Mathew, a professional chartered accountant who committed his life totally for the wounded and rejected founded Aswasa Bhavan in 1989 together with his wife Mrs.Aneena Mathew, a social worker in the government department.

Joseph had gone away from the good life during his successful accounting practice. Addicted to different substance abuse, Joseph came to brink of death. Later he was corrected and dedicated his life for the full time work for the wounded and rejected. At present there are more than 50 children, both male and female who experience the magic of love and care. All these children get the richest opportunities for their education, career and social life. Aswasa Bhavan does not consider any caste or creed.

It is very unfortunate for the children of prisoners because they are suffering not because of their fault. When either or both the parents are in the prison there is no one to look after and give shelter to them and they miss education and care they need. Often they are misled and engage in crimes and other anti social activities. Aswasa Bhavan offer maximum care and education to the prisoners' children. Organizers of the institution Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mathew treat all the children as their own. These children live along with their own children Moses and Miriam.

ARUTHAL ILLAM, THENY (means Aswasa bhavan)

This project for the prisoner's children been started also in the state of Tamil Nadu for the Tamil speaking prisoners.

Now we have 10 children at this home. Still 45 application are pending. We are sending them to the best English medium school for the best education and trying to bring them to the higher level of social Status. This year we will consider and admit 25 applications.

Through this project we also aim to give maximum education for tile village girls who stops their education and go for other works or starts immoral life.

Once in a while the prisoners with spouse invited and arrange a. family get together providing moral and social teaching to wipe their social stigma in the Community.

We are planning the projects in other states also.
